Marilyn Chastain, City Clerk
A native of Georgia and White County, Ms Chastain joined the City of Helen as it's Deputy Clerk in 2006. She was appointed as City Clerk in 2012. A graduate of White County High School, attended Gainesville College, North Georgia Tech, and is a Real Estate Broker, former business manager and owner.
Ms Chastain also holds a Clerk Certification from the Carl Vinson Institute at the University of Georgia, and has obtained the Georgia Election Certification. Ms Chastain is a member of the Georgia Municipal Association, Georgia Municipal Clerks and Finance Officers Association, Georgia Municipal Court Clerks Authority, International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Lake Burton Civic Group, American Association of Notaries.
City Clerk's Office
The City Clerk’s Office preserves and provides public access to the City’s Official and historical records: provides support to the City Manager, Mayor, and City Council. The City Clerk also serves as Election Superintendent for Municipal Elections, qualifies all municipal candidates while working with the White County Registration & Elections office. Online Open Record request, Ordinances & Resolutions, City Council related-materials such as Agendas & Minutes are all provided by the City Clerk’s Office.
The City of Helen’s, City Code and City Charter are available online. Copies of public records are available through the City Clerk’s office by completing an Open Records request and submitting it to the City Clerk’s office.
The City Clerk also serves as the Clerk of Court, for the Municipal Court of the City of Helen. The Clerk of Court prepares the Court Docket, works closely with the City Judge, City Solicitor, Police Chief and Police Department with the Court proceedings.
