2021 City of Helen Commissioner Election Results

The City of Helen announces the winners of Helen's November 2, 2021 election for three commissioner seats (pending certification). Steve Fowler (107 votes), Cliff Hood (86 votes) and Cinnamon Ruston (73 votes) will be sworn into office January 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the first Commission Meeting of the year. Congratulations to the candidates. Other results were Lee Landress (64 votes), Linda McAllister (62 votes) and Steve Brooks (45 votes). 

July the 4th, 2021

In observance of Independence Day, Helen City Hall will close Friday, July 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. and will reopen Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. Utility bills due by the 5th can be put in the utility payment box outside City Hall or be brought into the office by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and will not be considered late. Those wishing to obtain an Alcohol Servers Permit on Friday will not be penalized since there will not be a class on Friday, but will need to come to Wednesday's class at 11:00 a.m. If you have any questions, please call Helen City Hall at 706-878-2733 Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 
Fireworks will be held July 4th at dusk and can be seen from almost any location in downtown Helen. We hope you have a safe and happy holiday.

Road Closure Due to Damage Repair

ROAD CLOSURE

Earlier this year, the City of Helen experienced torrential rain which damaged a portion of Ridge Road. Repair of the road will begin Monday, July 12, 2021, and is expected to take approximately two weeks. During this time, the road will be closed at 114 Ridge Road. Anyone needing to access property between Escowee Road and 114 Ridge Road will need to do so from the City of Helen side. Anyone needing to access property between GA Alternate 75 and 114 Ridge Road will need to enter and exit from the GA Alternate 75 side. Helen Trout Tournament Postponed

Due to high water and unsafe river conditions, the 2021 Helen Trout Tournament at the Helen Chamber Festhalle is POSTPONED one weekThe event will occur on APRIL 3, 2021. The Festhalle will be open today, March 26, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and tomorrow, March 27, 2021, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for fishermen to come in to pick up their tee-shirts and have any questions answered. Refunds will be available for those who cannot attend next weekend.

2020 Comprehensive Plan Survey

The Paving of Edelweiss and Chattahoochee Strasse

Two city streets will be getting refurbished. Edelweiss Strasse (from South Main Street to Chattahoochee Strasse) and Chattahoochee Strasse (from Edelweiss Strasse to North Main Street) will be milled and resurfaced. Weather permitting, milling is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 15, 2021 with paving beginning after the milling is complete. The project should take about four days depending on the weather. Road work will be performed in sections. While work is being done, that portion of the road will have limited access or be closed. To avoid delays, please do not travel in this area, but use other routes when possible.We are sorry for the inconvenience but are looking forward to having these roads refinished.
