The City of Helen would like to announce two open seats on the Planning and Design Review Board (PDRB). The PDRB meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 9:00 a.m. The term will be for two years. Qualifications are as follows:
The planning and design review board shall be comprised of seven members appointed by the city commission. Members of the board must be residents of the city, or a resident and registered voter of the county who either owns property within the city and has done so for one year or more, or has held a city business license and has done so for two years or more, or is an officer of a corporation which either owns property within the city and has done so for one year or more, or holds a city business license and has done so for two years or more.

Effective immediately, and until conditions change, the burn ban has been lifted in White County with the following restrictions:
However, there is a total fire ban on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests. This means building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire (including charcoal based fire whether contained in a grill or not) is prohibited. Commercially available fuel stoves (camp stoves) are excluded from this restriction.

November 4, 2016, Innsbruck Resort & Golf Club will once again host the annual charity golf tournament. All proceeds go to the Helen Police Community Relations fund, which buys Christmas for White County children and families in need. Changes are being made to the White County FEMA floodplain map. The White County Commissioners and the City of Helen Building and Zoning Department would like to invite you to the 2016 FEMA floodplain map open house meeting which will discuss the upcoming changes to the FIRM maps and how it will affect residents of the County. The meeting will take place Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the White County Commissioner's Office meeting room at 1235 Helen Hwy, Cleveland, GA. Join us for the annual Yaarab Shriner's Parade, Saturday June 11 at 2:00 p.m. in downtown Helen. This event is fun for kids and adults as the shriner's make their way down Main Street in their mini cars and trucks.
May 28 from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. the Helen Chamber of Commerce will honor our Military Servants at the Festhalle. Experience a live Oompah band, dancing, and a festive German atmosphere. There will be imported and domestic beers and wines, soft drinks, wurst on a bun with sauerkraut, hot dogs and snack available for sale.
