Chattahoochee Strasse Road Closure/Water Outage

Monday, August 27, the City will be replacing a waterline valve on Chattahoochee Strasse. This will cause the water to be off for all shops from the Troll Tavern up to Chattahoochee Strasse on the north bound side of North Main Street. It will also cause the road to have limited access while the repair is being made.

Beginning Wednesday, August 29, Chattahoochee Strasse will be resurfaced causing areas of the road to have limited access or be closed. This will affect the part of Chattahoochee Strasse between North Main Street and Edelweiss Strasse. Paving is expected to take place on Wednesday and Thursday if everything goes well. If you have any questions, call City Hall at 706-878-2733.

Due to road closures, the Helen Library will be closed Wednesday through Friday, August 29 - 31. We are sorry for any inconvenience. If you have any questions during times the library is opened, you may call them at 706-878-2438.

Weather permitting, the race will begin at its normal time, but the location has been changed. The balloons will be going up from the field behind the Huddle House and the Surestay Motel (off Narr Weg). If the rain returns, or if the wind is not favorable, the balloons may fill up, but may not be able to leave the ground. We are sorry for the late notice, but a decision has just been reached. Any questions can be directed to the Helendorf Motel at 706-878-2271, the hot air balloon race headquarters. We hope you will join us for this special once a year event.

Opening of the New Pedestrian Bridge

We are excited that the new pedestrian bridge is finally in place. We have had a number of people asking when it will be opened to traffic. The concrete has been poured, but it has to have a certain amount of time to set. On Thursday, April 19, a strength test will be conducted. If the concrete passes the hardening test, it will be opened. If not, it will have to set for seven more days, and will open a week later on Thursday, April 26. We are also eager for the opening of the bridge, and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions, please call City Hall at 706-878-2733 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
