The City has had numerous calls asking if the City is opened for business. We are happy to announce that the majority of the town was unaffected by the recent flooding of the Chattahoochee River. The river is inside its banks again, and everyone has done a tremendous job cleaning up the affected areas. All roads within the City are currently open including Georgia Highway 75/17 which runs from Helen to Hiawassee. The downtown district was unaffected by the high waters, and businesses are opened and ready for tourist. Others have called concerning the news reports about high bacteria levels in the Chattahoochee River. Please know that these warnings are NOT for the Helen area. The Chattahoochee River in Helen is not experiencing high bacteria levels, and the water is safe for play. We will continue to keep you posted as more information is available. Again, the City and the Chattahoochee River are open and ready for you to come and enjoy them.
